Identify data sources, gather and process information to qualitatively describe the application of the motor effect in:

– the galvanometer

– the loudspeaker

  • Galvanometer:
    • Measures magnitude and direction of DC current with motor effect.
    • Uses a coil in magnetic field with spring (return to 0).
    • Current gives a force which turns the spring in proportion to the size of the current.
    • The magnetic field to curved to keep parallel
    • Can go both directions if tensioned in the middle
  • Loudspeaker:
    • Converts electrical energy to sound
    • Coil is between magnets (one inside and one outside)
    • Voice coil moves by motor effect and vibration of coil gives sound
    • Pushes cone which gives amplification
    • A spring is used to keep coil stable
    • Moves in one dimension by AC current.
